For this week’s Galaxy S2 ROM of the week, check out AOKP KitKat ROM.

Based on the latest Android 4.4.2, AOKP ROM now is fully supported on KitKat along with subtle new additions/improvements to AOKP ROM Control.  Although this is specifically made for GT-i9100, you can also easily install on SGH-i777 AT&T S2 using a custom kernel (See below for instructions on that).

This ported version of AOKP KitKat ROM runs near flawless, bringing you the work of AOKP Team to Galaxy S2 devices.  You will be able to find the full AOKP ROM Control you are used to and some more with the latest version.

I know some of you love AOKP ROM ever since it was available (like myself) and certainly this is one of the “goto” ROMs that you must try at least once.  If you haven’t tried the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat version of this ROM, definitely give it a test drive over the week(end).

For this week’s Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 and SGH-i777 ROM of the Week, check out the latest version 5.1.1 of Resurrection Remix ROM.

Based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Resurrection Remix ROM brings you great performance along with stability you can rely on. I was actually trying many other AOSP ROMs this week but have had trouble either installing or fixing bugs so I checked out the latest version of Resurrection Remix ROM.

Not too much have changed since last time we took a look in February but there are couple more features like Active Display, HALO, Lockscreen notifications, Omni Switch, and some more. Besides that, you can now run it easily on the AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 with the RenderBroken kernel which also allows for overclocking up to 1.4Ghz.

Other notable features include full tweaking menus for all your status/notification bars, custom system animations, screen recording with microphone, and Nova + KitKat launchers. Resurrection Remix ROM is definitely my “go to” custom ROM when I am having trouble getting other custom ROMs running on my S2 and with the latest version, you can expect even more speed and stability so give it a twhirl this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

For this week’s Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 ROM of the Week, check out Fusion ROM.

Based on Samsung TouchWiz Android 4.1.2 firmware, Fusion ROM is another custom ROM similar to WizzedKat ROM that brings you S5 features onto your Galaxy S2.

You will find many S5 features including S5 UI, S5 UI sounds, S5 icons, S5 boot animation, S5 AccuWeather widget, S5 toggles, and more.

Fusion ROM also ships with latest S5/Note 3 lockscreen (just like the one on Galaxy S5, you will need to install Galaxy Locker app from Play Store), this is probably the coolest feature since I have not seen the Particle lockscreen on any other ROM yet. Also you get Light/Ripple effects from Galaxy S4.

Other notable features include LCD Density Changer, AC!D sound mod, Galaxy Note 3 keyboard, Galaxy S4 transparent multi-window, Apollo kernel with 50mV under-volting to save you battery life along with Snapdragon BatteryGuru app, which should get you very long battery life.

Overall, this is another great ROM to taste some of the newer features from Galaxy S5 on your S2 so definitely give it a test drive this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

CM11 now brings the latest, bleeding-edge Android 4.4.3 to Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 officially, straight from the CM team and the SGH-i777 ported from the official as it’s nearly identical in hardware specs.

Out of the box, you will feel the faster performance that Android 4.4.3 brings to the table and even Antutu benchmarks show nice 20% improvement over older Android versions.

Of course, that’s not all, you can expect much better battery life with Android 4.4.3 custom ROMs.  All of this without upgrading your phone or hardware?  Yes, it’s a win-win situation for Galaxy S2 users and you can get it today instead of waiting on carriers to update their software (and Samsung has completely stopped support for this phone long time ago).

Overall, Android 4.4.3 is certainly near flawless with the latest CM11 ROMs so definitely give it a twhirl this week(end) and do let me know how much faster your S2 runs!

For this week’s Galaxy S2 ROM of the Week, check out C-ROM, available for GT-i9100 and AT&T SGH-i777 users.

Based on latest Android 4.4.4, C-ROM brings you the blazing-fast Android 4.4.4 along with endless number of customization options (as shown in video overview).

With C-ROM, you can get two cameras working, the AOSP camera and Google Camera (install from Play Store after installing ROM).  Both work flawless so you should be happy in that department.

As for customization, C-ROM brings you plenty  to rant about including Power menu customization, Driving Mode, custom Animations, Shake Events, LCD Density changer, status bar customization, traffic monitor, lockscreen notifications, Active Display, 8 slider shortcuts for lockscreen, PIE Controls, App Circle Bar, App Bar, Omni Switch, Battery Saver mode, and even more stuff.

Best of all, you will be able to get full floating multi-window working on your Galaxy S2, which is actually another level up from Samsung’s multi-window implementation in my opinion.

For those of you looking to try out the new OnePlus One smartphone, did you know you can install CM11 ROM and our HighOnAndroid OnePlus One conversion kit on your Galaxy S2?

This combination essentially turns your Galaxy S2 into OnePlus One, you will get nearly all of OnePlus One software features like OnePlus One lockscreen, Hexo theme, OnePlus One camera, Voice Recording app, and Screencast app (allows you to record voice while recording screen but having some trouble getting working on SGH-T989, works fine on GT-i9100 and SGH-i777).

For GT-i9100 and SGH-i777 users, you will benefit from having a stable CM11 ROM Snapshot “M9″, which is very stable and fast.  (Everything should be working flawless out of the box.)

For T-Mobile SGH-T989 users, you won’t be able to get a stable Snapshot version (as CyanogenMod team has stopped releasing snapshots) but you can still get pretty good performance with unofficial version.

Overall, this is a fun way to spend your week(end) or free time and try out what’s on the OnePlus One so definitely give this combo a go this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Based on latest Android 4.4.4 CM11, Ehndroix ROM aims to bring you fluid CM11 experience with additional customization features along with custom SMS and Music app.

For this week’s Galaxy S2 ROM of the Week, check out PACMan ROM with Android 4.4.4 KitKat!

Based on latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat CM11, PACMan ROM adds plenty of customization options on top of CM11 including Active Display, PIE Controls, HALO floating notifications, Heads Up Notications, Gesture Anywhere, custom animations, App Bar, and lots more.

If you like CM11 ROM but feel that you want to really jazz up your Galaxy S2 with customization/tweaks, definitely PACMan is a great ROM for that.  Many other AOSP ROMs have similar features but are not based on CM11 ROM while PACMan ROM is.

So, if you are in town for a new ROM this week(end), give the latest PACMan ROM a test drive and do let me know what you think!

For those of you wondering where is Android 5.0 Lollipop for Galaxy S2 smartphones, I have some good and bad news.

The good news is that there are working versions of CM12 ROM alpha, which will give you the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The bad news is that these ROMs are still in “alpha” stages, meaning there are many bugs.  However, if you do want to try out the Android 5.0 Lollipop today, you can make a backup ROM, try Lollipop, then restore your previous ROM.

The verdict?

For GT-i9100 version, everything seems to work except for camera and Play Store.  This is a deal breaker for most of you since without Play Store you cannot install any apps.  But, you can surely try out the new Lollipop UI and mess around settings.

For SGH-i777 version, you will also have some problems with Play Store, similar to the GT-i9100 version.  Oh yeah, this one is very unstable and will reboot on you easily so be careful but the camera does work.

For T-Mobile SGH-T989 S2 users, you are in luck as this version is actually better than the rest with almost everything working except incoming calls, 1080P video recording, and must keep wifi turned on at boot (otherwise will reboot on sleep).

Overall, it’s still WIP (Work In Progress) and in a few weeks we should have all the kinks worked out.  In the meanwhile, if you must try it today, just make a backup ROM, try Lollipop, then restore  your ROM.

Here’s a quick update on the best Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM for your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100.

For this week, check out the Hazy ROM by XDA user sooti, it’s an Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM with almost everything working out of the box except Netflix.

You will find everything including data, WiFi, bluetooth, camera, GPS, camcorder (1080P video recording, it actually comes with KitKat camera), and a bit more customization than CM12.

Netflix is still on-going work in progress and many Lollipop ROMs don’t support it but if you don’t use it then I do certainly recommend Hazy ROM as daily driver.

Other than that, you will get great performance and fair battery life out of Hazy ROM.  Also, I did notice the battery stats being off at some times so use a battery calibrating app to fix this issue.

Overall, Hazy ROM isn’t perfect but it’s going to give you the best Lollipop experience on the GT-i9100 (as of this post) so definitely give it a test drive this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Looking for a good Android 5.1 Lollipop ROM for your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100?

Check out the CM12.1S ROM, which is a hybrid of CM12S ROM from OnePlus One and latest Android 5.1.

This ROM features latest CyanogenMod CM12.1 Android 5.1 features along with OnePlus One camera, AudioFX, Screencast (screen recording app), and Hexo theme. I’ve tried many of the latest CM12.1 and Android 5.1/5.1.1 ROMs in the past week but found this ROM to be most stable with everything working out of the box except Netflix video playback.  Also, if you want to know about all of the latest CM12.1 ROM features, check out this video.

Overall, this is a fantastic Lollipop ROM for those of you who want to get your feet wet with Lollipop so definitely check it out this week(end).  I should have an update real soon though on a stable Android 5.1.1 custom ROM.

For those of you who want to upgrade your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 to CM13 or any Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow ROM, you will need to repartition your system partition so you can install it correctly.

Marshmallow ROMs require minimum of 1GB of system partition while the Galaxy S2 defaults to 500MB.  To do this, it’s pretty simple to do, you just need to install repartitioning zip file using latest TWRP recovery.

First, make sure you have a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP recovery.

Second, boot into your current CWM or TWRP recovery and flash the ISO Rec TWRP recovery.  Then reboot into recovery.

Third, flash the repartitioning zip file.  Make sure you have backed up everything on your phone beforehand as there is a chance you may lose some of your data during repartitioning!  Once that’s done, reboot back into recovery.

Fourth, once rebooted into TWRP, you can now do a standard installation of the ROM, see our universal failproof guide on how to install Marshmallow ROMs (or see the video tutorial above).

For this week’s Galaxy S2 ROM of the Week, check out C-ROM, available for GT-i9100 and AT&T SGH-i777 users.

Based on latest Android 4.4.4, C-ROM brings you the blazing-fast Android 4.4.4 along with endless number of customization options (as shown in video overview).

With C-ROM, you can get two cameras working, the AOSP camera and Google Camera (install from Play Store after installing ROM).  Both work flawless so you should be happy in that department.

As for customization, C-ROM brings you plenty  to rant about including Power menu customization, Driving Mode, custom Animations, Shake Events, LCD Density changer, status bar customization, traffic monitor, lockscreen notifications, Active Display, 8 slider shortcuts for lockscreen, PIE Controls, App Circle Bar, App Bar, Omni Switch, Battery Saver mode, and even more stuff.

Best of all, you will be able to get full floating multi-window working on your Galaxy S2, which is actually another level up from Samsung’s multi-window implementation in my opinion.

Based on the latest Android 4.4.4, AICP ROM brings you full AOKP ROM Control Settings along with many extras.

For AT&T S2 SGH-i777 users, you can easily install the ROM along with Shift kernel.

Q: I don’t have Play Store nor any of the Google apps!
A: You forgot to install Gapps, reboot into recovery and install it! (See above for download.)

Q: The ROM is not booting!
A: Try formatting /system and re-install ROM, sometimes the system partition gets corrupt and you may have to try 2 or 3 times before the ROM boots.

Q: My screen is fuzzy!
A: Go to Settings->Developer options and check “Disable HW overlays” is OFF.
